Boston, MA -- (ArriveNet - Apr 19, 2005) -- Any youth-serving nonprofit that attempts to expand the size of its operations and increase the numbers of young people served should be prepared for a roller coaster ride that at times might lead management to question why they started down this path. However, according to the findings of a new study of 20 nonprofits that have successfully expanded, those willing to navigate the 'chutes and ladders' of growth can emerge larger, better staffed and structured, although still struggling to maintain sufficient funding to ensure their long-term viability.

The study, being released today, was conducted by The Bridgespan Group for the Edna McConnell Clark Foundation to help both organizations understand the dynamics of growth for nonprofits that rely almost exclusively on grants and charitable donations to fund their operations. The study looked at how organizations grow, and how expansion affects their financial and organizational structure, as well as other factors that help or hinder their growth. "
