National Philanthropic Trust Expands With New Affiliate: NPT CAT - MarketWatch: JENKINTOWN, Pa., May 31, 2012 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- National Philanthropic Trust (NPT) announced today the launch of a new affiliate, NPT Charitable Asset Trust (NPT CAT), which shares NPT's mission to increase philanthropy in society. NPT CAT, a public charity in the trust form, accepts personal assets as charitable donations.

NPT's 2011 DAF Report, identified a significant increase in the number of complex gifts to charities in 2010 and expects that this trend will continue. NPT CAT specializes in converting illiquid and unique assets while accepting a wide range of other contributions.

Thanks for posting this. After years of hearing from my fundraising colleagues about unusual charitable gifts that they were unable to accept—due to logistics, risk, staff time, etc.—I am excited that NPT CAT will provide an alternative to this all-too-common dilemma. I hope that NPT CAT can help nonprofit fundraisers look at a wider range of assets as potential charitable gifts.
